Changing your Broadband ISP
The Broadband market is expanding fast, and ISPs are competing hard for your business. Package prices are staying relatively constant in the range of £15 to £25 per month but what you get for your money now is considerably more performance than even a year ago. This trend will continue, and may even accelerate as ISPs become less dependent on BT to provide the backbone of their service.
So the Broadband deal you signed up for may no longer be the best value for you, or you may feel that you want more (or less) performance. There are particularly good deals on offer that combine a Broadband package with a normal telephone package; keep an eye open for limited time special offers with attractive rates provided you sign up for a minimum of a year.
But once you have decided to change, how do you do it? Simply contact your existing Broadband ISP (by phone or email) to agree a termination date and request a MAC code. This is a Migration Authorisation Code and is a long complicated alphanumeric string which is valid only for a few days. Apply to your chosen new ISP, supplying the MAC code as you do so. Most ISP web sites now have the facility for entering MAC codes as part of the application. That's it, job done - the actual changeover should take about 10 days.
